Middleburg is by far the most exquisite and expensive farming area of Virginia due to its proximity to Washington, DC. Many ambassadors have delightful, charming farms here. It is a big tourist trap so be prepared for the weekend zoo.
Leesburg is renowned for both history and the horse scene and it’s expensive to buy here too since the toll road was built coming out from DC. Old Town is divine and exciting to walk, and there are some special restaurants within walking distance.
Warrenton is charming, historic, and quite small. It was home to Confederate guerilla fighter, John Mosby, and his Raiders. You can walk the town in an hour. The neighboring county of Fauquier is where their spectacular farms are located. I have to say, many of these Fauquier farms for sale are as fabulous as Middleburg’s…and just as pricey.
