Trucker Suspenders
The first type of suspender that you should familiarize yourself with is the style that most men wear: trucker suspenders.
Trucker Suspenders are a simple way to spice up your outfit. They aren’t complicated, but they do create a new look for your wardrobe. Typically, these kinds of suspenders are worn with jeans, chinos, khakis, or other more casual outfits.
However, they would also look good with more formal outfits as well- just make sure that the color goes well with your outfit! A good rule of thumb is to go with suspenders in either black or brown color.
X-Back Suspenders
This is a suspender with an X-shaped back that is typically worn more formally and appears more like a jacket. If you’re wearing it with a shirt, then it should be buttoned all the way up. You can also wear this style of suspenders with a sweater or other thicker pieces of clothing underneath.
H-Back Suspenders
H-back suspenders create a subtle outline of your belt when they’re attached to your pants. This is sometimes known as “belt support” which is why we recommend that you wear these types of suspenders when you have a tighter waistband.
You can wear these suspenders with either dress pants or casual pants. However, we recommend that you only wear them with dress pants if you want to show off the subtle outline of your belt (or just because it looks good!). If you prefer not to show off the outline, then be sure to wear them with slacks or chinos instead.
Because H-back suspenders provide for a subtle outline, they’re best suited for formal occasions like weddings and business meetings.
Y-Back Suspenders
If you’re looking for a classic look and the best way to wear suspenders, go for the Y-back. This is the most formal style of suspenders and it’s perfect when you want to keep your shirt tucked in. It’s great when you’re wearing a suit or a tuxedo, but they can also be worn with jeans or dress pants too.
Tips for Proper Suspender Wearing
