Air or Sea freight?
If you want to move to Nigeria, there are two options for shipping your belongings. For the most affordable option, choose air freight. It’s best for those who only need to bring a few belongings with them. If you have more stuff and you’re looking for a faster option, sea freight is available.
Air freight is often the fastest option. Cargo planes are able to reach Nigeria from anywhere in the world in just two or three days. Air freight can be expensive, but it’s worth it when you need to get abroad quickly. It’s not a good idea if you’re looking for a low-cost option though.
Sea freight is the cheaper option, but it’s also much slower. It can take up to a month for your cargo to get there and will only be five times cheaper than air freight. If you’re moving on a budget, sea freight is ideal. You just need to allow time for your cargo to arrive.
When it comes to shipping your stuff, many options are available. A popular choice is sea freight. There are two different sizes of containers: the 20ft and the 40ft. If you have a lot of stuff, you will need a 40ft container, but if not, a 20ft container will do just fine. The difference between the two is that if you have less than around 15 cubic meters, you will share a container with other people (in a process called Less Than Container Load).
Shipping ports
Nigeria has just one coastline, so it’s easy to figure out the best way to get your product to the country. The Port of Lagos is one of the country’s most important ports in the southwest, while the Port of Onne is the most important in the southeast. To get your product to Nigeria, it will most likely be taken by train and/or truck to one of these ports before traveling on by boat.
